The Litchfield, of 50 guns, and one of the transports were no so fortunate-they were forced ashore and lost. 130 of the crew perished, the survivors were taken in captivity until a ransome of 170000 dollars was paid

| Dogger Bank - ..just before 6.30 a.m. there was a violent explosion under the Aboukir....the Hogue was at hand to give what help it could..when it was struck by two torpedoes..in ten minutes she went down. The Cressey gave assistance and was struck by two torpedoes...she turned over on her beam ends and sunk aftera quarter of an hour. All her boats were away with survivors from the other two ships...60 officers and 1400 men were drowned(see also Raiders of the Deep)
